Our second Royal Baby post has been inspired by all the will she/won’t she going on when it comes to Kate Middleton and a Baby Shower lately. We think it’s unlikely that Kate Middleton will have her own Baby Shower, royal protocol would probably deem it inappropriate but there nothing to stop us dreaming up the perfect royal baby shower for ourselves.
We’ve put together four royal inspired themes to give you some ideas for your own baby shower.
Polka Dots & Pearl
The crown jewels contain many stunning pieces, the most famous of which is probably the Imperial State Crown. As well as having 273 pearls overall, the crown also has many famous gemstones incorporated into it, including Queen Elizabeth’s Pearls.
Pearls are also the birthstone for June so if you have June due date this may be the perfect theme for your baby shower.
We’ve used pink and white for our theme board but you can use whichever colours you like, pearls look good with everything!
Royal Garden Party
Garden Parties have been held at Buckingham Palace since the 1860’s and the Queen currently holds at least 3 each summer. Why not have your own Garden Party themed baby shower.
We’ve gone with vintage English afternoon tea; rose patterns, cucumber sandwiches, scones with Jam & Cream, dainty cakes and tea sipped from a vintage tea cup.
Remember you may have to take your party indoors if it rains or you can always have an indoor garden party to start with.
Rushing indoors before you and your paper plate of food both turn soggy happens so often here it should be a national sport!
Apart from the fact that we like the word play and that we’re sat here happily humming the prince song to ourselves, we do actually have a reason for this theme. Purple has long been the colour associated with Royalty and is still used by the royal family as a ceremonial colour.
To up the royal factor, mix the crown ideas from our Fit for a… theme board with our Purple Reign theme.
Fit for a… Prince or Princess
We’ve picked the crown for our royal motif, undeniably a symbol of royalty. You can get near enough everything you could possibly want for your baby shower with a crown theme on it. Try a Little Prince or Little Princess theme or incorporate the crown motif into one of our other royal inspired baby shower ideas.

The moment we heard the announcement about a Royal Baby it was excitement overload here at The Baby Planners HQ. Just think about the possibilities: gorgeous maternity clothes, a fabulous baby shower, the perfect nursery and then there’s the question we’ve discussed endlessly, What will his/her name be?
We’ve teamed up with a couple of our favourite guest bloggers to bring you a four part series inspired by the Royal Baby. We’re starting with guest blogger Michelle – creator of Keungzai.com, who will show you how to steal Kate’s gorgeous style for your own bump.
Steal Kate’s Style!
The media is filled with images of Kate Middleton’s style choices and who can blame them; she has pleasantly surprised us with gorgeous pieces by Prabal Gurung, Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney and Temperley London.
But now that she has a (petite!) bump, we are all super-excited at Keungzai HQ to see Kate Middleton’s maternity wardrobe unfold. In the meantime, it’s only right for us to pull together the key looks we think Kate would wear and why:
Keungzai’s Twisted Neck Detail Dress worn with neutral tone accessories, let the dress do the talking.
Thankfully, Kate is not one to shy away from bold, bright colours. Our Twisted Neck Detail Dress was designed with Kate in mind, featuring a beautiful twisted neckline detail and pleat detail at the waist, the emerald green dress is sure to flatter the Royal’s growing bump while showing off her gorgeous pins. The back is often a neglected area but sometimes one of the sexiest features, this dress features a beautiful cowl neckline on the back to really make the most of your assets.
Better yet, it’s even fabulous worn without a bump so you know you’re purchasing a real investment piece made with luxury micro-modal jersey, crafted and finished in the UK.
Keungzai’s Ultra Soft Drape Side Dress, wear with or without a belt depending on your personal style.
We know Kate likes her classic silhouettes, so our signature Ultra Soft Drape Side Dress is sure to flatter Kate’s new shape bump and beyond. Crafted in a luxury micro-modal jersey in the UK, the dress features a beautiful layered, drape design which allows mums to breastfeed post-birth.
Featuring a removable belt, the dress can be worn loose for a more casual affair or cinched in at the waist (as photo) to create a fitted silhouette. Alternatively, pair with a skinny black waist belt, black heels and chic antique style earrings and you have an outfit fit for a Princess.
The Keungzai collection was created by myself, Michelle Lee. Launched in March 2012, I founded the company due to my own personal futile search for clothes to fit my bump and beyond that suited my style.
Keungzai disregards the idea that maternity clothes are short-lived additions to your wardrobe, instead, Keungzai offers a collection that delivers chic styles in timeless shapes, designed to fit over bump or no bump. A selection of styles double up as nursing wear offering true investment pieces for your wardrobe.
We use premium materials: micro-modal jersey and silks, the pieces are crafted and finished locally in Derbyshire assuring quality and attention to detail. We manufacture in the UK to support the UK Fashion and Textile industry, offering work and nurturing homegrown skills.

We’ve featured our own baby showers on here before and while we love throwing a good baby shower if we were having our own showers we wouldn’t want to do it all ourselves.
We’d want someone else to do it for us so we could relax and let someone else do all the work for once. Which is where Before Baby come in. Before Baby are baby shower experts and the people we trust to throw a baby shower as good as The Baby Planners would.
Before Baby specialise in running baby shower parties that are unique, special and that mums-to-be love.

DIY Sweet Shop Baby Shower
As most people know The Baby Planners love a good party, so what else were we to do when Jessica (one of our product testers) said she was pregnant but to throw her a fabulous baby shower. With a limited budget and a small event space to work with we set about brainstorming ideas until we finally settled on a sweet shop theme.
In the end a large portion of our budget went on the candy because who could resist so many childhood favourites, we were literally like kids in a candy store!
While the sweet shop was a big hit another yummy treat also went over well, our delicious ice-cream cupcakes. So tasty we contemplated keeping them all to ourselves!
After much searching for sweet themed baby shower decorations and coming up empty handed we decided to make our own. Armed with a onesie template, some candy printed paper and that ever handy sticky-backed plastic (It’s like we’re auditioning for Blue Peter!) we turned out some fantastic themed decorations.
To link everything together, we made cute toothpick lolly pops to use as cake toppers and added sweet themed paper hearts to plain plates. All of the extras – cups, straws, pick & mix bags and balloons came in pink – Jessica is expecting a girl after all.
Having hosted and attended a fair amount of Baby Showers we obviously have our favourite shower games. With a small space, two pregnant guests and a mummy-to-be who is only 4 weeks away from her due date! we needed games suitable for everyone. We chose the fun and easy game of pin the dummy on the baby, guess the celebrity baby (well done to Scott – the father-to-be – who was the only person to guess Pinks baby, Willow, correctly, now we all know just how many magazines he’s been reading whilst waiting around at the midwifes!) Last but not least we played the ever popular smelly nappy game! Due to how realistic melted chocolate in a nappy looks we’ve refrained from posting a picture of the game but we will say that Chocolate Orange still tastes yummy even in a nappy!
While scouring the internet for party inspiration we came across an idea that we loved. Something everyone could get involved with, decorating onesies. We handed out onesies and fabric pens and told the guests to draw pictures and write messages for the baby, which Jessica and Scott can keep to show their daughter when she’s older.
A good part of any baby shower is the present opening. So many cute baby clothes and accessories to coo over. We decided to use a Moses basket as a present holder and used sweet decorated alphabet letters to spell out the baby’s name across the hood. Being quite a large basket and having a small space we were a bit worried that it wouldn’t fit but as it turned out we needn’t have worried. Not only did it fit but it wasn’t big enough to hold all the presents! That is one lucky baby.
While we’d love to show you every cute present Jessica received we’d be here all week so we’re going to stick with possibly both the mother and father-to-bes favourite. Our friends over at Maddies Crafts make hand-embroidered onesies and what better present for fooball loving parents than these:
Jessica assures us that her daughter is not wearing a West Ham onesie, while Scott is quite insistent that his daughter is never wearing a Chelsea onesie. I wonder which one will accidently get lost in the wash first?!
Any one that follows us on twitter may have seen a picture of the surprise we made for Jessica. With the help of Jessica’s mum – who came to the rescue with safety pins! – we made a nappy cake. A nappy cake is an American idea that’s starting to take off over here in the UK as well. By rolling nappies up and securing them with a crazy amount of elastic bands you can make round tired layers that can then be decorated any way you wish. Jessicas budget didn’t stretch to buying an already made one so we set about making our own – a first for The Baby Planners. We’re feeling pretty pleased with ourselves and Jessica really loved it too.
We’ll leave you with this last photo. Pictured in order are Gemma from The Baby Planners, Jessica, the mother-to-be and Sue, Jessicas mother. We’re all very excited over here at The Baby Planners HQ and can’t wait to share an update with you once Jessica has her baby.
